Shenandoah Stopover

Finally on the road after a spring and summer dealing with medical issues. We plan to take four days to reach the Adirondacks in New York.

Stopped in a parking lot before the freeway to make lunch.  On our way again at 1315

1430  65,808  Waynesboro, Virginia 

Entered Shenandoah National Park at the south end of Skyline Drive. Elevation 2,168'

1445  65,811  79°F  McCormack Gap Overlook.  Elevation 2,438' 

Skyline Drive is 105 miles long with a maximum speed limit of 35 mph.

1451  65,813  79°F   Beagle Gap Overlook  Elevation 2,491'

There are 75 overlooks along this beautiful drive.

The park has 500 miles of trails.

The scars on the mountain are "Rock Rivers."

One last overlook for today. Most of the stops had at least one large old tree like this one without any leaves.

A real bargain at $15 with our Senior Pass

Everything is secure in our little Lexor, but each campsite has a "bear box" for tenters.

This doe ambled away from our site as we pulled in. 

Stretched my legs with a walk to the campground Amphitheater and the Campstore. 

Flush toilets are available in the campground, but campers need to visit the "Campstore" for a shower.

Returned to the campground via the Appalachian Trail. 

Two deer and a rabbit were the only other users I met on the 0.3 mile return walk.
