Drove down to the Nelson, BC waterfront before the shops opened.
Nelson has a Streetcar line along their waterfront park.
Found the streetcar barn door open.
Peeked in and a volunteer showed us the cars and the shop.
This locally made maintenance car was unique.
The wooden cab had very simple controls. A brake wheel on the right and a big rheostat for speed control on the left.
Beth even got to ring the bell with the foot button.
The wind picked up and we enjoyed watching a sailboat race. Several seaplanes took off near them. They had to turn quickly to gain altitude and avoid the mountainside.
The drive from Nelson along the Kootenay River to the ferry landing in Balfour was beautiful.
There were too many cars ahead of us to take the first ferry, but there was plenty of activity around the landing to keep us busy. I hope we didn't get into too much trouble for reading this sign.
including this colorful shirt emporium in a bus.
First aboard at 1310, we rode the m/v Osprey 2000.
Our front row seat gave us a great view as we headed down the Kootenay River towards the lake.
Launched in 2000, the Osprey 2000 is the newest ferry in the fleet. An upper deck lounge has protected indoor seating for inclement weather.
The ferry ride would be worthwhile as a round trip passenger just for the views. You can see we weren't the only campers aboard. Best of all, the trip was no charge to ride the ferry!
Buffy the Bison and Shofar the Ram watched from our dashboard as we approached the eastern shore of Kootenay Lake.
The ferry crew was friendly and efficient at getting the boat docked and all the vehicles safely ashore.
At 1448 we stopped at the Destiny Bay Overlook for one of our last views of Kootenay Lake.
At 1547 we checked out the Creston Visitor Center where they had some "beary" nice granite sculptures.
Exhibits in the visitor center included this model mine building. It would be a good winter project for our home garden railway.
Just before 1630 we pulled in at Scottie's RV Park and Campground in Creston, BC.
We asked if they could recommend a local dentist to look at my tooth. They did, we called, and the dentist was booked through September!
Scottie's is a nice, older, clean park across the street from the Columbia Brewery.
They let us use a tent sight for 30 CAD
Our neighbors, from the UK, were on a tour of the Americas by motorbike. We only need think of them if we ever get feel like we don't have enough storage in our camper van!
Bigfoot lives across the street from the campground. Looks like he is making off with a case of the local brew.
Today's spectacular section of the Selkirk Loop. We traveled over the top and are headed back down to the USA.
