Birding at Home

Backyard birds provide great entertainment when we aren't traveling.  Here are a few of our favorites from early 2025.

Dark-eyed Junco

A late season snow event, unusual in central North Carolina, made our feeders very popular.

A Male Northern Cardinal and a bevy of Eastern Bluebirds gathered just as the flurries started.

Snow made for treacherous conditions on the feeder roof.

One of my favorite birds in any weather is the diminutive Tufted Titmouse.

After the snow melted, we cleaned out the bird bath and hooked up the dripper. Even a tiny bit of moving water can be a real bird magnet.

Two of our most assertive resident birds; a Red-shouldered Woodpecker and an Eastern Bluebird.

The last bird for this round is a pretty little House Finch

Home is a great place to practice bird photography skills.

All of these photos were captured through our kitchen windows using a Nikon D750 with a Nikkor 200-500 f/5.6 lens sometimes paired with a Nikkor TC-14E II teleconverter.

Editing was done in Adobe Lightroom Classic.
