Leaving Golden Lake Tenting, we spotted white Pelicans in a nearby field.
Half an hour east we stopped at Raintree Garden in Mayville, ND
Raintree was a pretty combination of plants and sculptures. This rock and metal sculpture was perfect for our 32nd wedding anniversary.
Surrounded by plants and butterflies, Beth was in her element.
A butterfly posed patiently while Beth captured the moment.
Many of the sculptures were whimsical creatures made from old tools.
Thank you to the citizens of Mayfield and Portland that built and maintain this lovely set of gardens.
Willowood Campground was right next door. If we venture this way again, we would definitely plan to stop here.
After pausing for fuel in Hillsboro, ND, we parked in front of their Court House.
Walking around the courthouse square we found tart and tasty rhubarb pastry at The Hillsboro Cafe.
From there we slid south to Fargo where we completed crossing the 340 mile width of North Dakota and passed into Minnesota.
By 1500 we pulled over to visit the World's Tallest Turkey in Frazee, Minnesota. Not sure why someone would build this, but we now have proof that we aren't the biggest turkeys around.
A little after 1630 we were parked on the shore of Lake Placid at a Boondockers Welcome Host. They let us camp here for two nights so we can get the windshield replaced tomorrow. It is a pleasant 72° F, a relief from the 90° days we had been experiencing crossing the plains of North Dakota.
Today's slide from North Dakota into Minnesota.
