Slept in until 0730 after a full day yesterday. Skies cleared overnight and it was 45 degrees outside. Did we say how much we liked Protection Mountain Campground?
It was 0945 before we left Protection Mountain in our rear windows.
Heading southeast, we stopped to view Storm Mountain. Signage was aligned so there was no mistaking the correct peak. This mountain is big enough that it creates localized weather events.
Following the Bow River, we stopped where we could see the river and the CP tracks. Looks like there are headlights in the distance.
We were rewarded as a short freight passed through pulling gondolas filled with coal.
Canmore had a nice little tourist information center where we met another new Ford Transit based Pleasure-Way rental in Canadream livery. We bought some groceries while in Canmore.
South of Canmore, the Bow River Campground had room for us.
Part of the Bow Valley Provincial Park, there were scenic views of mountains and the Bow River.
Bow Valley has nicely spaced, shaded sites. Ours was an unpowered site at $29/night.
It was time to do laundry. The facilities are actually 4 km away in Willow Rock Campground. It was quite reasonable at $2 to wash and $1.25 to dry.
We walked the Bow River Trail and both loops at Willow Rock Campground. Willow Rock had more road noise than Bow Valley and road views in most of the campsites.
The trail warned of Cougars, but we only met a pheasant and this wild rabbit.
Evening colors faded to black and white as the sun sank behind the mountains.
Today's short and scenic trip.
