Kinky Lake

7/27/2019

At 1030 we said goodbye to friends Rhonda and Dan as we left Brazeau Lakes, West Canal Recreation Area and headed west towards Jasper, Alberta.

We stopped at Carrot Creek Rest Area for lunch.

Midsummer in Jasper is busy, so we looked for a place to stay before reaching the main park.

Beth found  Kinky Lake in the Whitehorse Lake Provincial Recreation Area. There are primitive campgrounds at Wildhorse and Kinky lakes.

At the end of a dirt road we found space on the eastern side of the Rockies.

Kinky Lake provided a beautiful view of the mountains. A hiking trail circling the lake was a bit soggy as the lake level was high.

Here was the view out our window in Site 4.

For $23 the site included free firewood. Most of the campers were  local as this isn't a well known camping area.

There wasn't much privacy as the campground is one big gravel parking lot around the boat launch, but it was a pretty and quiet place to spend the night.

This is how the edges of the parking lot were divided for camping.

The red 4 shows Kinky Lake as an eastern gateway to Jasper. If you are looking on Google Maps, they currently spell it Kinkey Lake, though I sent in a request for correction.
