White Rock and Los Alamos

We started the day with a quick 20 minute drive to White Rock Visitors Center. This new facility has all kinds of free information about the area and RV "camping" with electric hook-ups available in the parking lot. They recommended visiting White Rock Overlook Point, just down the road. Once again, we were treated to amazing views while meeting only a couple other people.

View of the Rio Grande Valley

We almost missed this long narrow waterfall as it was behind us in a smaller canyon.

Having reservations in Santa Fe, we decided to explore more of Los Alamos. Driving a canyon road down to cross the Rio Grande gave us some respect for the remoteness of the facility, especially back in the 1930's when the site was originally opened for research. The Bradbury Science Museum is free and provided an interesting history of the area and the scientists who worked here. It was also a perfect place to duck in out of the rain showers. It provided enough background to make a walking tour of the remaining homes and lodge have some context.

The historic district is being restored, though we were able to duck into the main lodge and get a look at the timber framing.
Several homes are still being used as residences.

On to Santa Fe for More Adventures
