Off to the Grand Canyon

With a three week window of no responsibilities, we decided to head to the Grand Canyon and see how we do on a cross-country trip.

Three of us started out together as Noah had a three day weekend and suggested we stop at a school friend's house in western North Carolina. They were kind enough to let us boondock in their driveway. Noah and Will will be roommates at NC State next year.

After being spoiled by a home cooked pancake breakfast with real maple syrup and blueberries from the back yard, we were excited to get started on our adventure.
Saying good-bye to Noah and our host family, we headed out on this rainy Sunday morning winding through mountain hollows towards Kentucky.

Kingston, TN

Beth found us a good lunch stop next to a lake in Kingston, TN before going on to Natchez Trace State Park. Very few of the sites had campers, so we switched our good site for an even better one, right on the water and adjacent to a set of unoccupied floating boat docks.  This is a park we would enjoy visiting again, especially if we have the kayak in tow. The cost was $25/night plus a $5 one-time reservation fee.

We had the park to ourselves!
