On the road again at 7:20, we left the peaceful farm behind and headed back to I-40. By lunchtime we were in Weatherford, OK stopping at the
Stafford Air & Space Museum. We enjoyed lunch in the parking lot and looked at the planes outside the museum. Even if you don't go into the museum, it is a good place to stretch your legs, right off the interstate. Stafford is another Harvest Host site where we could spend the night, but we planned to push on to Texas.
Our entertainment on I-40 was looking at wind farms. For two states with oil and gas resources, Oklahoma and Texas are quickly diversifying into wind power.

By 3:30 we were parked in the concrete campground that is
Oasis RV Resort in Amarillo, Texas. Easy pull-through sites just off the interstate, clean bathrooms, full hook-ups, private showers, nice laundry facilities, and wi-fi were all pluses, but there isn't any scenery to enjoy. Prices were $34.20 for a night including a AAA, Good Sam, or FMCA 10% discount. One could walk to
Cadillac Ranch, but after driving 464 miles, we opted to walk a loop inside the park and gawk at all the giant class A rigs with their multiple slide-outs and towed vehicles.
After dinner we reviewed the weather forecast for the Grand Canyon. With rain and overnight lows just below freezing we decided to change tack and slow down a little. Our new goal is the New Mexico welcome center where we can coordinate maps with the "
Off the Beaten Path" book that is our go-to book for exploring on this trip.
