Between the Majors

It was a comfortable night at anchor. Our trials yesterday resulted in a good spot. As we prepared the boat for departure, the fuel boat came in and threaded through the boats anchored of Sampson Cay marina. He did a great job of getting in without hitting anyone. We were well out of the channel and didn't have to worry about being a hazard to navigation.

Today's journey was a short one. We raised the anchor and threaded our way the two miles to land between Big and Little Major Spot so we will be in a protected position if the winds pick up with the cold front. Our first anchoring attempt was in grass and, after diving on the anchor, we moved to a shallower spot with good sand. There is a fair amount of current here so the boat is swinging around and we can see the anchor chain looped on the bottom.

Brought up a conch with a hermit crab living inside during one of the anchor dives. Later in the afternoon the wind died down and we had a great view of the bottom. Beth noticed some sand dollars and dove down to retrieve them. They were dead, so we will keep them. A ray visited for a little while and the boats just south of us reported a nurse shark.

This was one of our longer school days, so we didn't go very far from the boat. Seven of us are anchored here tonight. At low tide the depth read 5.5 feet, so we may move into a little deeper water tomorrow. If it gets choppy, our 4.5+ draft might bump on the bottom. I did swim under the keel and clean the impeller this afternoon.

Hooked into the internet signal 1.2 miles away over at Staniel Cay for a few hours and attempted to fix the web site, but it still needs work. The signal disappeared when the boat turned with the current, so maybe it will work again later.

Noah chose "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" for movie night. Started watching it in the cockpit, but without any wind the bugs found us.
