Casting Off

So this is the day that seven years of planning and preparation come to fruition. We are on a year-long  sabbatical where we can sail and explore while teaching our son third grade along the way. Leaving from Northwest Creek Marina in New Bern, North Carolina, the plan is to go up the East Coast, possibly to Maine and then head south to Florida and the Bahamas for the winter, before returning to North Carolina. We trust our little Island Packet 24 cutter to carry us safely and will post updates along the way as time and technology allow. Wish us luck...

Finally cast-off the docklines. Worked until early afternoon to stow things enough to sail safely. Since it was 100 degrees, we took a quick dip in the pool before departing to lower our core temperatures. We’ll miss NW Creek, but it is great to be underway. Without any wind, we motored to Clubfoot Creek where we anchored out and dinghied in to Matthew’s Point to hook up with the Quicks & Thompsons. Left lots of stuff (should have left more) with Earl for return to Durham. Very pleasant night and we collapsed early.
